As Catholics we believe that during the Holy Mass which we attend each week (and for some of us daily), the priest (during the consecration) speaks these words as he holds the communion host, "...He took bread and gave you thanks. He broke the bread, gave it to his disciples, and said: Take this all of you, and eat it: this is my body which will be given up for you". When the priest says "this my body", it is at that instant when, through the miracle of transubstantiation, the bread and wine which we offer as the bloodless sacrifice to our Lord truly become the Body, Blood , Soul and Divinity of Jesus. It is His true Presence in the form of bread and wine. It is Christ. Perpetual Adoration is when the priest takes a consecrated host, such as the one described above, and places it in a monstrance. (monstrance comes from the Latin "monstrare" to show, to expose to view.) The monstrance is then placed in front of the tabernackle (an ornate box which holds the monstrance and any consecrated hosts) or on the altar of the church or chapel for adoration. What do you actually do during adoration? You may sign up to be an "adorer" which allows you to schedule yourself for one or more hours per week to pray before the very presence of Our Lord, exposed in the monstrance. It means that you can have some time alone with Jesus to recite your favorite prayers, read the bible, contemplate acts of faith, hope, charity, thanksgiving, reparation, pray a rosary or do whatever type of prayerful devotion that suits you before Our Lord. You can just sit and say nothing simply keeping Him company, just as you would with a dear friend. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Twelve Reasons From The Teachings Of The Church For Wanting To Spend One Hour With Jesus In The Blessed Sacrament 1. You are greatly needed! "The Church and the world have a great need of Eucharistic Adoration." (Pope John Paul II, Dominicae Cenae) 2. This is a personal invitation to you from Jesus. "Jesus waits for us in this Sacrament of Love." (Pope John Paul II, Dominicae Canae) 3. Jesus is counting on you because the Eucharist is the center of life. "Every member of the Church must be vigilant in seeing that the sacrament of Love shall be at the center of the life of the people of God so that through all the manifestations of worship due Him shall be given back ‘love for love’ and truly become the life of our souls." (Pope John Paul II, Redeemer of Man) 4. Your hour with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament will repair for evils of the world and bring about peace on earth. "Let us be generous with our time in going to meet Jesus and ready to make reparation for the great evils of the world. Let your adoration never cease." (Pope John Paul II, Dominicai Cenae) 5. Day and night Jesus dwells in the Blessed Sacrament because you are the most important person in the world to Him! "Christ is reserved in our churches as the spiritual center of the heart of the community, the universal Church and all humanity, since within the veil of the species, Christ is contained, the Invisible Heart of the Church, the Redeemer of the world, the center of all hearts, by Him all things are and of whom we exist." (Pope Paul IV, Mysterium Fidei) 6. Jesus wants you to do more than to go to Mass on Sunday. "Our communal worship at Mass must go together with our personal worship of Jesus in Eucharistic adoration in order that our love may be complete." (Pope John Paul II, Redeemer of Man) 7. You grow spiritually with each moment you spend with Jesus! "Our essential commitment in life is to preserve and advance constantly in Eucharistic life and Eucharistic piety and to grow spiritually in the climate of the Holy Eucharist." (Pope John Paul II, Redeemer of Man) 8. The best time you spend on earth is with Jesus, your Best Friend, in the Blessed Sacrament! "How great is the value of conversation with Christ in the Blessed Sacrament, for there is nothing more consoling on earth, nothing more efficacious for advancing along the road of holiness!" (Pope Paul VI, Mysterium Fidei) 9. Just as you can’t be exposed to the sun without receiving its rays, neither can you come to Jesus exposed in the Blessed Sacrament without receiving the Divine Rays of His Grace, His Love, His Peace. "Christ is truly the Emmanuel, that is, God with us, day and night, His is in our midst. He dwells with us full of grace and truth. He restores morality, nourishes virtue, consoles the afflicted, strengthens the weak." (Pope Paul VI, Mysterium Fidei) 10. If Jesus were actually visible in church, everyone would run to welcome Him, but He remains hidden in the Sacred Host under the appearance of Bread, because He is calling us to faith, that we many come to Him in humility. "The Blessed Sacrament is the ‘Living Heart’ of each of our churches and it is our very sweet duty to honor and adore the Blessed Host, which our eyes see, the Incarnate Word, Whom they cannon see." (Pope Paul VI, Credo of the People of God) 11. With transforming mercy, Jesus makes our heart one with His. "He proposes His own example to those who come to Him, that all may learn to be like Himself, gentle and humble of heart, and to seek not their own interest but those of God." (Pope Paul VI, Mysterium Fidei) 12. If the Pope himself would give you a special invitation to visit him in the Vatican, this honor would be nothing in comparison to the honor and dignity that Jesus Himself bestows upon you with the Invitation of spending one hour with Him in the Blessed Sacrament. "The Divine Eucharist bestows upon the Christian people the incomparable dignity." (Pope Paul VI, Mysterium Fidei) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Twelve Biblical Reasons For Wanting To Spend One Hour With Jesus In The Blessed Sacrament 1. He is really there! "I myself Am the Living Bread come down from Heaven." (Jn 6:35) 2. Day and night Jesus dwells in the Blessed Sacrament because of his Infinite love for you! "Behold I will be with you always even to the end of the world," because "I have loved you with an everlasting love, and constant is My affection for you." (Mt 28:20; Jer 31:3) 3. The specific way that Jesus asks you to love Him in return is to spend one quiet hour with Him in the Blessed Sacrament. "Where your treasure is, there is your heart...." "Could you not watch one hour with Me?" (Mt 6:21; 26:40) 4. When you look upon the Sacred Host, you look upon Jesus, the Son of God. "Indeed, this is the will of My Father, that everyone who looks upon the Son and believes in Him shall have eternal life. Him I will raise up on the last day." (Jn 6:40) 5. Each moment that you spend in His Eucharistic Presence will increase His Divine Life within you and deepen your personal relationship and friendship with Him. "I have come that you may have life, and have it more abundantly." "I am the Vine and you are the branches. Whoever remains in Me and I in Him shall bear much fruit because without Me, you can do nothing." (Jn 15:5) 6. Each hour you spend with Jesus will deepen His Divine Peace in your heart. "Come to Me all of you who are weary and find life burdensome and I will refresh you..." "Cast all of you anxieties upon the One who cares for you..." "My Peace is My Gift to you." (Mt 11:28; 5:7; Jn 14:17) 7. Jesus will give you all the Graces you need to be happy! "The Lamb on the Throne will shepherd them. He will lead them to the springs of life- giving water." (Rev 7:17) 8. Jesus is infinitely deserving of our unceasing thanksgiving and adoration for all He has done for our salvation. "Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive honor, glory and praise." (Rev. 5:12) 9. For Peace in our country! "When My people humble themselves and seek My Presence... I will revive their land." (2Chr 7:14) 10. Each hour you spend with Jesus on earth will leave your soul everlastingly more beautiful and glorious in heaven! "They who humble themselves shall be exalted...." "All of us, gazing on the Lord’s glory with unveiled faces, are being transformed from glory to glory into His very image." (Lk 18:14; 2Cor 3:18) 11. Jesus will bless you, your family and the whole world for this hour of faith you spend with Him in the Blessed Sacrament. "Blessed are they who do not see and yet believe..." "Faith can move mountains..." " What is needed is trust... " "Behold I come to make all things new." (Jn 20:29; Mk 11: 23; Mk 5:36; Rev 21:5) 12. Each moment you spend with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament brings joy, pleasure, and delight to His Sacred Heart! "My joy, My pleasure, My delight is to be with you." (Prov 8:31) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Eucharistic Adoration By: Pope John Paul II I encourage Christians regularly to visit Christ present in the Blessed Sacrament, for we are all called to abide in the presence of God. In contemplation, Christians will perceive ever more profoundly the mystery at the heart of Christian life. Teach young people the value of Eucharistic Adoration. I urge priests, religious and lay people to continue and redouble their efforts to teach the younger generations the meaning and value of Eucharistic adoration and devotion. How will young people be able to know the Lord if they are not introduced to the mystery of His presence? Like the young Samuel, by learning the words of the prayer of the heart, they will be closer to the Lord, who will accompany them in their spiritual and human growth. The Eucharistic mystery is in fact the "summit of evangelization" (Lumen Gentium) for it is the most eminent testimony to Christ’s resurrection. |
is such a tremendously powerful weapon against evil, that armed with the Rosary in our hearts and the beads in our hands, we can even stop wars. If we only knew how powerful this prayer is - we would never want to put the beads down. The Mysteries of Light In October 2002, Pope John Paul II added the 'Mysteries of Light' to the Holy Rosary calling on us to pray the Rosary daily - for our families, and for world peace. Power of the Holy Rosary 'On August 6th, 1945, the first bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. People exposed within half a mile of the fireball were seared to bundles of smoking black char in a fraction of a second as their internal organs boiled away. Nearly 100,000 died instantly. On August 9th, 1945, the second bomb fell on Nagasaki. Seventy thousand people died immediately...... the dead ....were more fortunate than the survivors , whose exposure to the bomb would have lifetime effects. Fr. Hubert Schiffer, a Jesuit priest, was 30 years old when he was within the one mile epicentre of the atomic explosion in Hiroshima, where he was assigned to the parish of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Three other fellow Jesuits, Frs. Lasalle, Kleinsore and Cieslik were still alive and well over 30 years later. It was inexplicable that of the hundreds of thousands of people within a radius of one mile of the explosion they were the only survivors, and that none of the priests were affected by the radiation. Moreover, the parish house which was only eight houses from the centre of the explosion remained standing when all surrounding buildings were completely demolished. More than two hundred scientists examined Fr. Schiffer, ( who later died in 1982), but were unable to explain how he had survived. The doctors and scientists heard again and again from him the same response to their many questions: "As missionaries we were trying to live the message of Our Lady of Fatima. We therefore prayed the Rosary every day!" In the centre of the rebuilt city of Hiroshima stands a Marian Memorial Shrine. Its 15 stained glass windows depict the fifteen mysteries of the Rosary. Fr. Schiffer's firm belief was that their devotion to the Virgin Mary had protected them and he gave the hope that even if an atomic war ( with the possible "annihilation of nations"), should come, those who fulfill her messages may expect extraordinary, even miraculous protection from her.' - from the book The Last Help before the End of Time by Prof. Courtenay Bartholomew Message from Our Lady of Medjugorje regarding the Holy Rosary August 25, 1997 "Dear children! God gives me this time as a gift to you, so that I may instruct and lead you on the path of salvation. Dear children, now you do not comprehend this grace, but soon a time will come when you will lament for these messages. That is why, little children, live all of the words which I have given you through this time of grace and renew prayer, until prayer becomes a joy for you. Especially, I call all those who have consecrated themselves to my Immaculate Heart to become an example to others. I call all priests and religious brothers and sisters to pray the rosary and to teach others to pray. The rosary, little children, is especially dear to me. Through the rosary open your heart to me and I am able to help you. "Thank you for having responded to my call." Promise of the Blessed Virgin Mary "The soul which recommends itself to me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall not perish". What the Holy Rosary is How to pray the Holy Rosary Prayers of the Holy Rosary Benefits of the Holy Rosary Blessings of the Holy Rosary WHAT THE HOLY ROSARY IS The word Rosary means "Crown of Roses". Our Lady has revealed to several people that each time they say a Hail Mary they are giving her a beautiful rose and that each complete Rosary makes her a crown of roses. The rose is the queen of flowers, and so the Rosary is the rose of all devotions and it is therefore the most important one. The Rosary is made up of two things: mental prayer and vocal prayer. Mental prayer is the meditation of the chief mysteries of the life, death and glory of Jesus Christ and of His Blessed Mother. The twenty mysteries are divided into Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious and Luminus. Vocal prayer consists in saying twenty or five decades of the Hail Mary, each decade headed by an Our Father, while at the same time meditating on and contemplating the fifteen principal virtues which Jesus and Mary practised in the fifteen mysteries of the Holy Rosary. The complete Rosary consists of fifteen decades, but is more commonly said in five decades. So the Rosary is a blessed blending of mental and vocal prayer by which we honor and learn to imitate the mysteries and the virtues of the life, death, passion and glory of Jesus and Mary. The Holy Mother Church received the Rosary in its present form in 1214 in a miraculous way, when Our Lady appeared to Saint Dominic and gave it to him as a powerful means of converting the heretics and other sinners. Since then the devotion spread around the world with incredible and miraculous results. HOW TO PRAY THE HOLY ROSARY To say the Rosary to advantage one must be in a state of grace or at very least be fully determined to give up mortal sin. 1.While holding the crucifix make the Sign of the Cross and then recite the Apostles Creed. 2.Recite the Our Father on the first large bead. 3.On each of the three small beads recite a Hail Mary for an increase of faith, hope and charity. 4.Recite the Glory Be to the Father on the next large bead. 5.Recall the first Rosary Mystery and recite the Our Father on the next large bead. The Joyful Mysteries are meditated on Mondays and Saturdays, Sundays of Advent and after Epiphany until Lent. The Sorrowful Mysteries are meditated on Tuesdays and Fridays, and Sundays in Lent. The Glorious Mysteries are meditated on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and Sundays after Easter until Advent. The Luminus Mysteries are meditated on Thursdays 6.On each of the adjacent ten small beads (also refered to as a decade) recite a Hail Mary while reflecting on the mystery. 7.On the next large bead, recite the Glory Be to the Father. The Fatima decade prayer may also be said. 8.Each succeeding decade is prayed in a similar manner by recalling the appropriate mystery, reciting the Our Father, ten Hail Marys, the Glory Be to the Father, and the Fatima decade prayer (optional) while reflecting on the mystery. 9.When the fifth mystery is completed, the Rosary is Customarily concluded with the Hail, Holy Queen. PRAYERS OF THE HOLY ROSARY The Sign of the cross The apostles Creed The Our Father The Hail Mary The Glory be Salve Regina SIGN OF THE CROSS In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. APOSTLES' CREED I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell; the third day He arose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting. Amen. OUR FATHER Our father, who art in heaven; hallowed by Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. Amen. HAIL MARY Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen. GLORY BE TO THE FATHER Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. HAIL, HOLY QUEEN Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy! our life, our sweetness and our hope! To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary! V. Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God. R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. Let us pray. O GOD, whose only begotten Son, by His life, death, and resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life, grant, we beseech Thee, that meditating upon these mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise, through the same Christ Our Lord. Amen. After each decade say the following prayer requested by the Blessed Virgin Mary at Fatima: "O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, lead all souls to Heaven, especially those who have most need of your mercy." | Holy Rosary and Eucharistic Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament |
The Holy Rosary: is the story of the New Testament. Through the beads we follow the lives of Mary and Jesus. We follow Mary from the day the Archangel Gabriel came to ask her to become the Mother of Christ, to the day she was crowned Queen of Heaven. We follow Jesus from the moment the Holy Spirit came down on Mary, through His childhood, His public life, His cruel death on the cross, the joy of Easter when He rose from the dead, to the day he ascended to Heaven in glory. Mary waits for your prayers. If you speak to her she always listens. She is our mother. When you pray the Rosary, begin by telling Mary what you would like her to use your prayers for - and then think about the stories that are hidden in the beads. |
